ericvannEric Vann – Crew Advsior

Eric Vann is a Civil Engineering student at MSU who enjoys an array of outdoor activities including backpacking and river kayaking. He is an Eagle Scout (Troop 676, Bozeman, MT) and has been an instructor for the BSA High Adventure Leader Training program at the Montana High Adventure Base. He is employed by Backpacking Light as a production editor and by the Montana High Adventure Base as the Trek Director.

justin-torgersonJustin Torgerson – Associate Crew Advisor

Justin Torgerson is a fourth generation Montanan with roots in the northern and central regions of the state. He is the father of two Boy Scouts, Nikolas and Kristofer, with one in Venture Crew 1 and both in Troop 676 of Bozeman and is a member of First Lutheran Church in Bozeman. Outdoor activities have always been a major component his life and he enjoys the activities most that allow him to experience the fantastic terrain and scenery available in the Northwest. Justin earned a B.S. from Pacific Lutheran University in 1991 where he met his wife, Annelise. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Rochester in 1997 and was employed at the University of Washington and then Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1997-2011. He and his family moved back to Montana in 2011 to provide a great environment in which to raise their sons. Justin is currently employed as the Senior Scientist for Quantel-USA (a.k.a. Big Sky Laser).

Frank is the Chief Marketing Officer at Tender Corporation / Adventure Medical Kits, and the father of three including one Eagle Scout. Frank is a skilled backpacker, whitewater paddler, and cross country skier.

Ryan Jordan is the Founder / CEO of Backpacking Light, Crew One’s Chartering Organization. Ryan is an Eagle Scout and the former High Adventure Director and Program Director at Camp Parsons BSA (Chief Seattle Council). Ryan served a term as a Scoutmaster with Troop 676 in Bozeman, and is currently the Chair of the High Adventure Committee for the Montana Council BSA and the Program Director for the Montana High Adventure Base. Ryan has authored the books Lightweight Backpacking and Camping: A Field Guide to Wilderness Equipment, Technique, and Style (2005), A Case for High Adventure (2014), served on the Editorial Task Force Committee for the 5th Edition of the BSA Fieldbook (2014), is an active wilderness trekking, packrafting, and fly fishing guide, and the Course Director for Backpacking Light’s Wilderness Trekking School.
